Big West Tests Take UC Irvine to Riverside, Northridge

BIG WEST TESTS TAKE UCI TO RIVERSIDE, NORTHRIDGE: UC Irvine (6-10, 1-4 Big West) travels to UC Riverside this Thursday and Cal State Northridge Saturday in continuing Big West Conference action. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
HAUSER, WINKLER TOP BIG WEST: Alexandra Hauser (Chino Hills/Ayala HS) and Kristin Winkler (Los Altos/St. Francis HS) remain at the top of the Big West in aces and digs, respectively. Hauser, who posted three aces last week is averaging .39 aces per set while Winkler owns a 5.22 dig average.
TEAM NOTES
- UCI snapped a five-match losing streak with a win against Cal Poly.
- In the win against the Mustangs, the Anteaters posted eight aces, the third-most this season.
- The Anteater defense posted double-figure blocks in three straight matches
- The team is ranked 77th in the country in digs per set.
- UCI was held to a season-low 20 kills against Long Beach State.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Alexandra Hauser totaled five kills, four aces and nine blocks in three matches last week.
o Had three aces against Cal Poly to tie her second-highest mark of the season
o Tied a season-high with six block assists against the Mustangs
- Aly Squires led the team with 26 kills to go along with 32 digs and four blocks.
o Had 12 kills in the win against Cal Poly
o Has eight double-double matches on the year
o Had a 14 match streak of at least one block snapped against the Gauchos
o Ranked 94th in the country in points per set at 4.2
- Kristin Winkler amassed 46 digs in three matches.
o Posted two aces in three of the last five matches
o Ranked 19th in the nation in digs
- Shaina Olsen had 18 kills, two aces and 10 digs in action last week.
o Had 11 kills against Cal Poly for her fifth double-digit match
o Season-high two aces against the Mustangs
- Mary Carls handed out 44 assists and had 26 digs for UCI.
o 13 digs against Cal Poly is the second-highest this season for the setter
o Posted two aces against the Gauchos, the third time this year she has aced an opponent twice
- Pauline Acres led the Anteater defense with seven block assists in three matches last week.
o Put up four block assists against Long Beach State, for her second highest-total this year
o Has recorded at least one ace in five of the last six matches
- Shannon Fleming is ranked 76th in the country in blocks per set
SERIES RECORDS: UCI holds a 24-10 series lead over UC Riverside. The Anteaters have won 10 straight against the Highlanders, including winning 3-1 twice last 2010. UCI holds a 21-20 edge over Cal State Northridge with the teams splitting a pair of matches last season.
