Yang Leads ‘Eaters in Season-Opening Tournament

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – UC Irvine men's golf finished the season-opening CDA National Reserve Invitational in 15th place on Tuesday afternoon.
The 'Eaters tied for first in the field with three eagles throughout the tournament. The squad also tied for seventh in par-5 scoring with a 4.90 average and ranked ninth in par-4 scoring with a 4.24 average. UCI recorded 117 pars and 32 birdies over the three rounds.
Steven Yang led the way for the 'Eaters in his collegiate debut, tying for 29th at five-over 221. Yang recorded an eagle in the final round, finishing with a four-over 76. He carded a two-over 74 in the second round before posting his best score of the tournament in the opening round, shooting a one-under 71. Yang also tied for 11th in the field in par-5 scoring with a 4.75 average. He finished with eight birdies and tied for 27th with 33 pars.
Jason Tang finished tied for 47th with a score of eight-over 224. Tang recorded an eagle in each of the first two rounds, including a one-under 71 in the opening round. He tied for sixth in the field in par-5 scoring with a 4.67 average and tied for second overall with two eagles. Tang also recorded six birdies and 29 pars.
Rayan Ahmed tied for 67th in his collegiate debut, finishing with a score of 228. He posted his best round in the opening round with a two-over 74 before carding a four-over 76 in the final round. Ahmed also tied for 16th in the field with 11 birdies and recorded 24 pars throughout the tournament.
Owen Davis-Piger rounded out the Anteaters lineup, finishing tied for 79th. He led the 'Eaters in the final round with a one-over 73 and also posted a one-over 73 in the second round to lead UCI. Davis-Piger finished the tournament with seven birdies and 31 pars.
UP NEXT: The 'Eaters return to action Oct. 5-6 when they travel to Corvallis, Ore., for the Oregon State Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
