UCI Men’s Golf Set to Open 2026-27 Campaign at CDA National Reserve

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf is set to open its 2026-27 campaign at the CDA National Reserve in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Sept. 21-22. Hosted by Eastern Washington University, the season-opening tournament will feature a competitive 16-team field.
The Anteaters will face a strong group of programs, including Oregon State, Pacific, North Dakota, San Francisco, Seattle, Saint Mary's, Tarleton State, Fresno State, Boise State, Idaho, Washington State, Hawai'i and host Eastern Washington. UCI will also square off against Big West opponents UC Riverside and Sacramento State as it begins the new campaign.
The 'Eaters' lineup will feature two collegiate debuts, as Steven Yang and Rayan Ahmed are set to compete for the first time. UCI will also have three returners in the lineup, with Jason Tang, Owen Piger-Davis, and Tommy Lin bringing valuable experience back to the course.
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Senior Jason Tang enters his fourth and final season in Irvine, bringing three years of valuable experience to the Anteater lineup. Tang was a consistent contributor last season, finishing third on the team with a 75.36 scoring average and tying for 23rd at the Big West Championship. During his sophomore campaign, he posted two top-20 finishes, highlighted by a ninth-place performance at the Orange County Collegiate Classic, where he finished at 2-over 218. Tang made an immediate impact as a freshman, ranking second on the team with a 72.97 scoring average and recording five sub-70 rounds. As he begins his final season with the 'Eaters, Tang will look to kick off the campaign with a strong performance and set the tone for the year ahead.
YEAR THREE
Junior Tommy Lin enters his third season with the 'Eaters looking to build on a strong start to his collegiate career. Lin earned All-Big West honorable mention honors as a freshman after recording two top-20 finishes, including a fourth-place showing at the Orange County Collegiate Classic, while tying for 11th at the Big West Championship. He continued to make strides last season, carding a season-best 69 at the Western Intercollegiate and tying for 29th at the Big West Championship. With two seasons of experience under his belt, Lin will look to open the new campaign strong and continue establishing himself as a key contributor for UCI.
Junior Owen Davis-Piger also returns for his third season in Irvine after showing steady improvement throughout his sophomore campaign. Davis-Piger recorded a collegiate-best 68 in the second round of the Ka'anapali Classic, highlighting his continued development during the 2025-26 season. As he begins a new chapter in his junior season, Davis-Piger will look to carry that progress into 2026-27 and make an early impact for the Anteaters.
FRESH FACES
Freshman Steven Yang joins UCI from Newport Beach, Calif., following a standout prep career. Yang won the 2026 Malbon Buckets Cup at Torrey Pines and the 2025 SCGA Mixed Championship, while also placing third at the SCPGA Toyota Tour Cup at Temecula Creek. A First Team All-Sunset League selection and team captain at Corona del Mar High School, Yang brings proven competitive experience and leadership as he looks to make an early impact for the Anteaters.
Freshman Rayan Ahmed arrives at UCI from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after a standout junior career at Raffles World Academy. Currently ranked No. 1 among male amateurs in the UAE, Ahmed earned a nine-shot victory at the Ras Al Khaimah Mixed Open in February, along with individual medalist honors at the GJG UAE U23 Championship. He also finished runner-up at the 2026 Montgomerie Men's Open and will look to translate his success into an immediate impact in his first collegiate season.
LOOKING BACK
The Anteaters enter the 2026-27 season looking to build on two years of strong progress and continue moving the program forward. UCI has recorded back-to-back third-place finishes at the Big West Championship, its best conference results since 2019. With eight Big West titles already to its name, UC Irvine has claimed more conference championships than any current Big West program. The 'Eaters will look to add another chapter to that championship tradition and pursue a ninth conference title this season.
