Anteaters Finish Pool Play Unbeaten with 80-49 Win

NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan – UC Irvine men's basketball finished up pool play vs. Jordan with an 80-49 win to complete a 6-0 run through pool play.
Five Anteaters scored in double figures in the game led by Josiah Johnson's 13. Defense kept pace with the shooting snagging 14 steals and out-rebounding Jordan 52-43. UCI did it at a 42.9% clip and were 82.4% from the free throw line.

Harrison Carrington led the charge out of the gate with six early points along with an assist and a steal, and Bryce Goldman served up seven points of his own. Jordan made a late charge finishing ahead in rebounds and draining three three-pointers to make it a tight first quarter with UCI ahead, 23-19.
Josh Palmer's four points in the second quarter was the only standout in a balanced quarter of Anteater basketball and plenty of defense. UCI grabbed 17 boards and made five steals in the second quarter alone with the teams combining to go 0-for-15 from long distance with UCI extending their lead to 37-27.
Torian Lee came out firing in the third quarter with the first seven points for the 'Eaters. Harrison Carrington filled out the stat sheet with four points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block as the Anteaters doubled up Jordan in the quarter to head to the final frame on top, 57-37.
The fourth quarter began with Josiah Johnson who either scored or assisted on the team's first four buckets finishing with seven in the frame. Mason Hodges joined him with seven points in addition to three rebounds to close out the 80-49 win.
The 'Eaters await their Cross-Over match opponent with Wonju DB New Generation from South Korea and Strong Group Athletics from the Philippines still in the running. The semifinal match will be Saturday, August 22 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time or 5:00 p.m. local time.
