
'Eaters Set the Tone on Day 1 of Steve Scott Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team kicked off the Steve Scott Invitational with three event wins and seven personal records Friday at Anteater Stadium.
Emma Hadley pulled away in the final lap to finish ahead of the pack in the 1500m Invitational. Hadley clocked a personal-record 4:17.97 to move up two spots to No. 4 in school history. Kaia Schmidt also ran a lifetime-best 4:20.94 to place third overall and crack UCI's top-10 at No. 7.
Anna Soares ran a 24-second PR 10:26.89 to take third in the steeplechase. Soares made a big leap on the Anteaters' all-time charts, jumping from No. 8 to No. 3 in program history.
Jackie Pan led the 'Eaters in the 5000m Invitational where she came in fourth in a 21-second personal-best 17:15.86. Grace Baxter was 11th (17:32.29).
In her first 5000m of the season, Breckyn Kornachuk won the Open section in a personal-record 17:44.04.
Makena Castillo had UC Irvine's top 800m time of the evening, clocking in at 2:11.35 to finish third in Heat 2. Castillo was .01 seconds off her personal best. Kaitlene Ofilan was the runner-up in Heat 4 (2:15.22).
In the field events, Zharia Taylor won the high jump with a clearance of 1.74 meters (5-8.5). Esmeray Demirbas also tied for fourth at 1.69m (5-6.5).
Jazzmine Davis registered a season-best 5.87m (19-3.25) to place sixth in the long jump. Davis' mark matched her personal record from last year that is tied for ninth in school history. Joy Anderson added a wind-aided season-best 5.42m (17-9.5).
DeAna Davis took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.16m (177-8). Elisabeth Driscoll also registered a lifetime-best 48.77m (160-0) to advance to the final where she placed ninth. Leilah Lauifi contributed a PR 44.67m (146-6).
Jolie Robinson (42.82m/140-6) and Giselle Rodriguez (42.55m/139-7) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the javelin.
