'Eaters Secure Series over UC Davis, 7-2

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball had all phases working again for a fourth straight conference win, 7-2, to defeat UC Davis Friday night at Anteater Ballpark
  • UCI's offense was a steady force with runs in five of their first six innings Friday
    • The 'Eaters loaded the bases thanks to an infield single and two walks as Auggie Gutierrez knocked in the first run on a sacrifice fly
    • The second inning was three straight one-out singles to move the lead to 2-0
    • A two-out rally in the third inning was punctuated by Noah Alvarez tripling home a run into the alley, and Zach Crandall dropped a ground-rule double off the warning track and out to right field for a 4-0 lead
    • UCI was held scoreless in the fourth and gave up the first Aggie run before getting on the board again in the fifth as Alvarez swiped second on a ball in the dirt with two outs, and Crandall dropping a single in on the next pitch for a 5-1 lead
    • Four walks and an infield single in the sixth inning led to two more runs with Gutierrez and Alvarez walking them in
  • On the mound, it was the Jack Ross show getting his first start in a weekend series since March 2025
    • He sat down the Aggies early never allowing multiple runners on base through the first four innings
  • Ross left after hitting the first batter of the sixth making way for Ricky Ojeda
    • After he got the first out, Ojeda ended the inning on a rocket to Alonso Reyes at first base who made the catch and applied the tag for the double play
    • Ojeda cruised into the ninth before UCD mounted a small rally scoring a run before the final out
UC Irvine 7, UC Davis 2
  • Ross picks up the win, his second this season and fifth of his career
    • He needed just 70 pitches over five innings striking out four with one walk and scattering four hits
    • Ojeda's line was similar; three hits, a run, a walk, and four strikeouts over four innings
    • Ojeda's save is his first of the year and fourth of his career
  • The offense was powered by another three-hit game by Zach Crandall, his third in that last seven games
The Anteaters finish the series Saturday looking to sweep for the first time since the opening weekend. Finnegan Wall starts for UCI against UC Davis' Jack Pezzolo in a 1:00 p.m. first pitch
