IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball dropped a back-and-forth matchup Sunday in Anteater Ballpark eventually falling, 9-5, to No. 17 Oregon State.
- Starting pitching again commanded the game early with Finnegan Wall and Oregon State's Eric Segura each throwing one-hit ball through four innings
- The Anteaters managed to get to Segura in the fifth inning
- A Zach Crandall single and one of Segura's four walks knocked him out of the game
- A groundball by Frankie Carney was thrown into the outfield in an attempt to get the lead runner to plate UCI's first run
- Alonso Reyes connected on a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead after five innings
- Wall had a one-hitter going into the sixth before a leadoff home run drew OSU within 2-1
- The Beavers loaded the bases in the inning before Wall left for Tim Grack, and they pounced on him with a two-run single and two-run double in a five-run inning
- In a 6-2 game, Tommy Farmer, who stopped that five-run inning with a spectacular catch, left the yard with a two-run home run to left field to make it a 6-4 ballgame
- Oregon State started their offense back up in the eighth with three runs capped by a two-run home run by pinch-runner Bryson Glassco to get back ahead, 9-4
- UCI was gifted a run in the eighth inning when the first four hitters in the inning were hit or walked, but they squandered another bases loaded opportunity with a Farmer line drive for the second out was hammered right at the Beaver shortstop
Oregon State 9, UC Irvine 5
- Tommy Farmer ignited the offense reaching base three times including his second home run of the season scoring twice and driving in two
- Finnegan Wall put up a great performance with five innings of one-hit ball finishing with a line of four runs and four strikeouts in 5.1 innings and taking the loss.
UCI heads out on the road for their next four games starting Tuesday night at San Diego State with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
