Anteaters Wrap up Action in Fullerton and San Diego

FULLERTON, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team had more impressive performances to close out the Ben Brown Invitational Friday in Fullerton.
 
Chimobe Onye led the way with personal records in both the shot put and discus. Onye claimed runner-up honors in the shot put with a best of 16.91m (55-5.75). He was also fourth out of 35 in the discus with a toss of 49.09m (161-0). Jake Troxell added a PR 47.26m (155-0) in the discus.
 
Colin Green notched a season-best 14.59m (47-10.5) for a top-eight finish in the triple jump, while Alan Vuong had a season-best 2.01m (6-7) to come in fourth in the high jump.
 
On the track, Logan Lyght, who was named the Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, took second in the 110m hurdles (14.11). AJ Taylor was also sixth in a season-best 14.50.
 
Justin Johnson came in second out of 53 sprinters in the 200m with a time of 21.08 seconds. Brandon Burns was also 12th in a wind-aided personal-record 21.51. Burns added a season-best 10.70 in the 100m.
 
Brendan Clark registered a lifetime-best 47.48 to place third out of 41 in the 400m.
 
Clark, Johnson, Matthew Irvine, and Lyght wrapped up the day with a third-place performance in the 4x400 relay (3:15.65).
 
SAN DIEGO - UCI's distance crew competed in two events at San Diego State's Aztec Coastal Classic.
 
Javin Schmitt saw a four-second improvement in his 1500m time from last week, crossing the finish line in 3:59.36.
 
Juan Chantaca led the Anteaters in the 5000m with a time of 14:11.77 in his season debut.
 
UC Irvine will return to action in two weeks when it hosts the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic at Anteater Stadium, March 27-28.
