RECORD SETTERS
UC Irvine has broken a school record in each of its first two meets. At the Spokane Indoor Challenge (Jan. 17), Jazzmine Davis, Aoife Hernon, Gabrielle Hawkins, and Esmeray Demirbas combined for a program-best 3:45.77 in the 4x400 relay. The quartet topped UCI's previous standard from last year by two seconds. Last weekend at the UW Invitational, Emma Hadley took down a 21-year-old record in the mile with a personal-best 4:42.71. Kaia Schmidt also ran a PR 4:51.70 to beat the old record and rank second behind Hadley.
ANTEATER SPEEDSTERS
In addition to helping the 4x400 relay to a school record, graduate transfer Aoife Hernon notched a lifetime-best 55.43 to win the 400m at the Spokane Indoor Challenge. Hernon's time ranks third in program history as she is rightΒ behind Esmeray Demirbas, who holds the second spot with a PR of 55.36 that she established last year. In 2025, Halle Sutherland also ran the No. 2 times in school history in the 60m (7.51) and 200m (24.35), sitting behind Olympian Persis William-Mensah in both events.
RAISING THE BAR
Five current Anteaters occupy a spot among UC Irvine's all-time top-10 high jumpers. Zharia Taylor, who earned outdoor All-America honors in the high jump last year, owns the No. 2 mark indoors at UCI with a personal-record 1.79 meters (5-10.5) that she set in 2025. Esmeray Demirbas and Kailah McKenzie also established PRs of 1.73m (5-8) last season to tie for fourth. Joy Anderson joined the group at No. 6 after clearing 1.70m (5-7) in her collegiate debutΒ at the Spokane Indoor Challenge on Jan. 17. Jolie Robinson rounds out the contingentΒ at No. 10 (1.63m/5-4.25).
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
The 'Eaters have dramatically bolstered their depth in the pole vault with the addition of freshman Jessie Condliff and junior transfer Kaylee Tan. The duo wasted no time in etching their names in the record books as both cleared 12 feet at the season-opening Spokane Indoor Challenge. Condliff claimed runner-up honors with a height of 3.82 meters (12-6.25), which ranks second in program history. Tan placed fourth and tied UCI's fifth-best all-time mark at 3.67m (12-0.5). Junior Alana Sugue, who missed last year with an injury, is also third among the Anteater career leaders with a personal-best 3.75m (12-3.5) that she set in 2024.
THE BIG THREE
At the Spokane Indoor Challenge, DeAna Davis, Nyla Baker, and Pinkie Schnayer all improved on their lifetime bests that already had them among UC Irvine's top-10 throwers. Baker won the shot put with a toss of 14.62m (47-11.75), improving on her No. 4 mark in program history. Schnayer also hit a PR 13.98m (45-10.5) to climb one spot into a tie for sixth in the school record book. In the weight throw, Davis launched a lifetime-best 16.47m (54-0.5) to claim runner-up honors and move up to No. 5 among the Anteaters' all-time leaders.
