IRVINE, Calif. β The UC Irvine men's tennis team is back in action Oct. 9-11, as they travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. for the UCSB Fall Invite for their second tournament of the fall slate. UCI finished second in the season-opening San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic with 11 points last weekend, Oct. 2-4.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Eaters opened the 2026-27 fall slate with a second-place finish at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, earning 11 points over the weekend. UCI split its matches against Navy and Oregon, earning 3-3 ties on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Anteaters closed out the weekend with their strongest performance, defeating Washington, 5-1, on Sunday.
Over the course of the weekend, the 'Eaters recorded seven singles victories and four doubles wins. Dev Mangat, Greg Gamal, and Alex Guajardo each earned two singles victories, while Nathaniel Suh added one. In doubles play, Mangat and Gamal went a perfect 3-0, while Suh and Gamal teamed up for one additional victory.
A LOOK AT THE LINEUP
The Anteaters will bring a new-look lineup to the UCSB Fall Invite, with Max Fardanesh and Ruining Huang making their season debuts and newcomers Holland Snell and Yashwin Krishnakur making their first appearances as Anteaters this weekend.
Fardanesh returns for his senior season after earning 2026 All-Big West First Team honors in doubles and Second Team honors in singles. He also received All-Big West Honorable Mention honors in singles in 2025. During the 2025-26 season, Fardanesh recorded 14 singles victories, including eight dual-match wins, primarily at No. 2. He also posted a 12-10 overall record in doubles and tied for the team lead with eight dual-match victories. The 'Eaters will rely on Fardanesh's experience and leadership as he begins his senior campaign.
Huang is set to begin his junior campaign this weekend after recording 12 singles victories during the 2025-26 season. He posted a 9-7 record in dual matches, including a perfect 4-0 mark in Big West play, while competing primarily at No. 5. The 'Eaters will look to Huang to build on his success as he enters his junior season.
Holland Snell joins UCI as a junior transfer from New Mexico State, where he earned 2025 Conference USA Second Team All-Conference Singles honors. Primarily competing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the El Paso, Texas native made an immediate impact as a freshman, posting a 10-7 record. A former top junior prospect, Snell reached a career-high ITF Junior ranking of No. 285 and brings valuable experience to the 'Eaters as he begins his first season in Irvine.
Yashwin Krishnakur joins UCI as a freshman from Dublin, Calif., and a 2026 graduate of Laurel Springs School. A five-star recruit, Krishnakur was ranked as high as No. 30 nationally in the 2026 recruiting class and reached a career-best No. 15 in TennisRPI. He compiled a 32-20 overall record (.615 winning percentage), including a perfect 6-0 mark against four-star players, and brings a strong national junior résumé to Irvine as he begins his collegiate career.
RECENT SUCCESS:
UC Irvine is coming off a successful 2025-26 campaign, finishing 5-1 in Big West play to claim a share of the regular-season championship. The Anteaters have now captured either a Big West regular-season title (2023, 2026) or tournament championship (2022, 2024, 2025) in five consecutive seasons.
UCI also advanced to the Big West Championship final for the fifth straight year. The Anteaters have further been represented by the conference's top individual honor in each of the last two seasons, with Hiroki Sakagawa earning Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Year in 2026 and Noah Zamora receiving the honor in 2025.
