UC Irvine Picks Up Two Singles Wins at Southwest Regionals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – UC Irvine women's tennis continued competition at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships with extra singles and doubles action, earning two singles victories against regional opponents.
Montana Parkinson and Mackenzie Lukin each secured three-set victories in extra singles. Parkinson rallied after dropping the opening-set tiebreak to defeat Long Beach State's Thea Jagare, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 11-9. Lukin also earned a comeback win, defeating CSUN's Annette Robertson, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, to claim the match in the 10-point tiebreak.
The Anteaters faced several tough matchups in the remaining extra singles contests. Maily Huynh fell to UC Santa Barbara's Marianne Angel, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), while Rachel Gee dropped her match to Arizona's Sophia Christodoulou in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Kara Chen was defeated by Loyola Marymount's Ada Piestrzynska, 6-1, 6-2, while Bella Pitchford fell to Cal State Fullerton's Martina Puvill, 6-2, 6-4.
The Anteaters also competed in four extra doubles matches against opponents from UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State, UC San Diego and Grand Canyon. Chen and Huynh fell to UC Santa Barbara's My-Anh Holmes and Caroline Beard, 6-0. Quin Brady and Gee dropped their match to Long Beach State's Diana De Simone and Elen Jantacova, 6-2, while Lukin and Sayuri Parandian fell to UC San Diego's Sonya Goldberg and Neha Guru, 6-2. Parkinson and Pitchford also competed against Grand Canyon's Aniela Odrobina and Beatrice Veltri, falling 7-5.
The ITA Southwest Regional Championships run through Oct. 20 in Malibu and serve as a qualifying event for the 2026 NCAA Individual Championships. The singles finalists and doubles champion will earn automatic bids to their respective NCAA championship events.
