OFF THE TEE
The UC Irvine women's golf team continues its 2026-27 campaign this week, teeing off at the SeattleU Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, Oct. 5-6, at Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash. The 'Eaters enter their third tournament of the fall after finishing 17th with a team score of 883 at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
UCI will face a competitive 17-team field that includes host Seattle University, Weber State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Nevada, Washington State, Portland State, Idaho, Grand Canyon, North Dakota and Fresno State. The Anteaters will also square off against five Big West opponents: CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, California Baptist, UC Riverside and Utah Valley.
LAST OUTING:
The Anteaters finished 17th at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, carding a 19-over-par 883 (295-297-291) from Sept. 21-23. UCI tied for third in the field with 170 pars and added 35 birdies and an eagle. The 'Eaters posted a 3.03 scoring average on par 3s, a 4.21 average on par 4s and a 5.05 average on par 5s.
A LOOK AT THE LINEUP
The 'Eaters will once again turn to their newcomers to make an impact, with all five competing at this weekend's tournament. Zoe Sprecher will lead the group, joined by Jio Yoo, Veronica Man, Obi Chan and Madeline Lee, who will compete as an individual. HaYoung Lee will be the lone returning player in the lineup after making her season debut last week.
Last week, Jio Yoo led the 'Eaters at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, tying for 34th at two-under-par 214 (71-71-72). She paced UCI in par-4 scoring with a 4.07 average and led the team on par 5s with a 4.58 average, while also recording nine birdies. Yoo also turned in a strong performance at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 14-15, tying for 28th with a 54-hole score of 221 (72-75-74). She tied for 13th in the field with 10 birdies, recorded 29 pars and tied for ninth in par-5 scoring with a 4.67 average. Yoo will look to build on her strong start to the season this week.
Zoe Sprecher has also made an early impact, tying for 51st at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic with a one-over-par 217 (72-73-72). She posted a 4.07 average on par 4s, recorded 34 pars and led the 'Eaters with 10 birdies. Sprecher opened the season with a top-10 finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, tying for 10th at even-par 216 (71-71-74). She also tied for eighth in the field with 11 birdies and totaled 32 pars. She will look to continue her strong start this week.
HaYoung Lee tied for 83rd at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, finishing at nine-over-par 225 (77-73-75). In her first tournament of the season, she led the 'Eaters with 36 pars while adding four birdies and an eagle.
Obi Chan tied for 93rd at 12-over-par 228 (75-80-73), recording 35 pars and four birdies. At the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 14-15, Chan tied for 49th with a 229 (79-75-75), finishing with seven birdies and 31 pars. She will look to build on that performance this week.
Veronica Man did not compete at last week's Golfweek Red Sky Classic, but she opened the season with a 49th-place tie at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. Man carded a 229 (77-78-74), tying for 15th in the field with 36 pars while adding four birdies. She will look to build on her season-opening performance in her second collegiate tournament.
Madeline Lee also did not compete at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. At the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Lee tied for 61st with a 232 (78-76-78) while competing as an individual. She recorded 31 pars across the three rounds and will return to competition this week.
