How did you get started playing tennis?
Both my parents played D1 tennis – my dad played a year at Pepperdine then the next three at BYU, and my mom played all four at BYU. They put a racket in my hand when I was a little kid, and just sort of brought me to the court and started teaching me, so I'm really thankful for that.

Where did you grow up and what is your favorite thing about your hometown?
I grew up in San Diego, in the city. It's really nice, the weather is great, and there's a lot of diversity. I'd say the beaches are one of the best parts about San Diego. And I really like the food.

Who has been your biggest inspiration in the sport?
My mom. She's just such a hard worker. She always motivates me and wants me to strive to be the best and make no excuses.

Tell us a little bit about your recruiting process and why you chose UC Irvine.
My coach in San Diego knew (Mike Saunders) pretty well. I was able to get in touch with him through my coach, and from then on I really wanted to come to Irvine. I love the environment. The team was really nice to me on my visit, the academics are great, and the team won the Big West, so it was just the full package to come here. I'm blessed with the opportunity.

What is your goal for your first season?
My goal for my first year is to continue to peak at the right moment, and keep improving my game. I really want to give it a shot on the pro tour afterwards so I just want to keep improving, and also do well in school.

What is your major and post-tennis goals?
I'm majoring in business economics. I would like to do something with finance or accounting, maybe analytics. And down the road, maybe try coaching.
