IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine jumps all the way up to first place in the 2024-25 Dennis Farrell Big West Commissioner's Cup standings as provided in an update by the league office Monday morning.
 
First awarded after the 1998-99 season, the Big West Commissioner's Cup is presented annually to the athletic department that achieves the best overall performance across all Big West conference-sponsored sports. 
 
The Anteaters, who were fourth after the completion of the fall season, climbed up the standings behind second place finishes by the men's and women's basketball teams.
 
Men's basketball advanced to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship game and ended the season with a program-record 32 wins. UCI became the first Big West team to appear in the final game of the NIT since the 1983 Fresno State squad and recorded the most wins in a season since UNLV went 34-1 in 1990-91 with their Final Four run.

Women's basketball recorded their fourth-straight 20-win season and sixth consecutive top-two Big West finish.
 
The winner of the Dennis Farrell Big West Commissioner's Cup is determined by averaging points based on regular-season finishes or championship placements in all 21 conference-sponsored sports. Sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor volleyball, and water polo use regular-season results, while cross country, golf, track & field, beach volleyball, and swimming & diving are based on championship outcomes. Ties are settled by averaging the tied teams' point totals.
