IRVINE, Calif. – UCI (10-8, 1-4 Big West) dropped a 5-2 match to Cal State Fullerton inside the Anteater Tennis Stadium Sunday morning.
Â
The Titans (9-7, 3-3) recorded the first doubles win of the morning on court three as they went 6-1 until
Carolyna Fowler and
Yen Nhi Huynh made it interesting over on court two, tying the match with their 6-2 win on court two. It came down to the result on court one which turned in favor for CSUF as they took the doubles point for the match with a 6-3 victory.
Â
After two Cal State Fullerton individual wins to kick off singles play,
Amanda Perez halted the Titan momentum as she downed Diana Yanotovskaya, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3. CSUF took the next point at No. 1, but it didn't come easy as both sets went over the normal six-points [7-5, 7-6 (7-5)] to clinch the match.
Â
Continuing on, the match at No. 2 went to three-sets as Fowler won the first, 6-2, but her opposition in Seha Yu won the next two, 6-3, 7-5. Rounding out the match, Y. Huynh also played in a three-setter where she took down Mariia Nikitash 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

FROM THE PLAYERS
"We did a really good job just focusing on the first point and being aggressive at the net. We carried the momentum from each point and had each other's back at all times. My singles started off a little slow in the first set, but I started to come back. After losing the first set, I had some momentum and fought hard for every single game and running every ball down. I was more aggressive and moving forward more which is something that I was working towards with the coaches in practice. The team had a lot of tough losses but good fights. Right back 'Eaters!" –
Yen Nhi Huynh
Â
"Proud of my team today for putting out everything on the court. Although my doubles didn't go the way I wanted to, I came into singles with a focused mindset and played my game. I'm proud of the way I was able to stay tough in certain points of the match, and I'm most especially proud of my team for fighting until the very last point. Excited to continue our fighting spirit as we make our way to Cal Poly and Santa Barbara, go 'Eaters!!" –
Amanda Perez
