UCI Remains Unbeaten in Big West Play with 4-1 Win at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The 45th-ranked UC Irvine men's tennis team remained undefeated in Big West play after taking down Cal Poly, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Ronca Tennis Center.
The Anteaters improved to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in conference.
The Mustangs (7-11, 1-2 Big West) started strong with 6-3 victories at Nos. 2 and 3 to win the doubles point.
Andy Nguyen and Noah Zamora were up 5-4 against Raz Haviv/Bastiaan Weststrate at the top of the lineup when their match was abandoned.
The 'Eaters didn't trail for long as Andy Nguyen made quick work of Bastiaan Weststrate, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 singles to tie it up. Nguyen extended his unbeaten streak to 13 matches where he is 11-0 with only one set loss during that stretch.
Ruining Huang also won his third-straight singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sean Kamyshev at the fourth position. Rithvik Krishna was next off the court at No. 3 where he upended John Cross, 6-3, 7-5, to give UCI a 3-0 advantage.
Max Fardanesh then closed out a second-set tiebreaker to clinch the Anteaters' third consecutive win. Fardanesh defeated Jack McGary, 6-3, 7-6 (3), at No. 5.
UC Irvine returns to Anteater Stadium on Wednesday, April 9, for a 2 p.m. Big West showdown with UC San Diego.
