'Eaters Break 4x400 School Record at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - UC Irvine women's track & field broke a 13-year-old school record in the 4x400 Friday evening at the Mt. SAC Relays.
 
Esmeray Demirbas, Lauren Aquino, Jazzmine Davis and Jolie Robinson combined for a time of 3:41.03. The quartet topped the Anteaters' previous standard of 3:42.25, which was set in 2012.
 
It was the third event of the day for Davis, who also took fifth out of 32 in the 100m hurdles (13.82), and ran her second 400H race of the season (62.21). Demirbas also tied for seventh in the A section of the collegiate high jump with a clearance of 1.65 meters (5-5).
 
Lauren Thai, Halle Sutherland, Reyna Johnson and Samantha Bartz started the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay (45.82).
 
Sutherland added a top-10 showing in a field of 52 athletes in the 100m (11.72), while Bartz clocked a personal-record 24.39 in the 200m.
 
Nyla Baker advanced to the shot put final and finished eighth overall with a best of 14.46 meters (47-5.25). Pinkie Schnayer was also 10th at 13.70m (44-11.5).
 

AZUSA, Calif. - Malia Gay highlighted the UC Irvine women's track & field team's final day at the Bryan Clay Invitational Friday evening at Cougar Stadium.
 
Gay clocked a five-second personal record to finish 29th out of 132 in the 1500m Invite. Her PR of 4:19.74 moved her up four spots to No. 5 in program history.
 
Kaia Schmidt paced four Anteaters in the 1500m Open A with a time of 4:32.60. Anna Vogtmann also clocked in at 4:35.08. Makena Castillo was UCI's top performer in the 1500m Open B, placing 50th in a field of 179 athletes (4:37.31).


LONG BEACH, Calif. - Over in Long Beach, UCI kicked off the Beach Invitational in the steeplechase and pole vault.
 
Laura Yontz claimed runner-up honors in the steeple where she ran a personal-record 11:07.57. Yontz topped her previous best by 21 seconds to rank 10th in program history. Anna Soares was also third in a lifetime-best 11:08.78.
 
Lauren Scarpelli competed in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters (10-11.75).
 
UCI continues action at the Beach Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
