Anteaters in Top-10 Through 18 Holes at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team is eighth after the first round of the 78th Western Intercollegiate presented by Titleist Monday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
 
The Anteaters combined for a 6-count-5 total of 353 to sit among the top-10 in a tournament field that features seven teams ranked among the top-45 in the nation. No. 18 San Diego State holds the early lead at 12-under 338. 
 
Rei Harashima leads the 'Eaters in a tie for seventh at 3-under 67. After getting out to a tough start with a double bogey on the second hole, Harashima came storming back with seven birdies. It was his eighth sub-70 round of the season.
 
Tommy Lin and Jack Yu both carded an even-par 70 to tie for 20th. JJ Nakao is also tied for 34th at 1-over 71. Nakao made the turn at 2-under with two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 567-yard fifth, but had three bogeys on the back nine.
 
Jason Tang (75) birdied three of his last six holes to tie for 73rd, while Yaoting Zou (78) is tied for 87th.
 
UCI returns to Pasatiempo Golf Club for the second round of the Western Intercollegiate on Tuesday, April 15.
