IRVINE, Calif. – Sophomore
Andy Nguyen has been named the Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

This is Nguyen's second weekly honor of the season and third of his career. It is also the third-straight week an Anteater has taken home the award.

Nguyen was recognized after going 2-0 at No. 2 singles without dropping a set against No. 62 Dartmouth and No. 10 Harvard. Against the Big Green, the Long Beach native made quick work of Hikaru Takeda, 6-0, 6-1, to tie the match at 1-1. The 'Eaters went on to win 4-3.

The next day, Nguyen earned UCI's point in a 6-1 loss to the 10th-ranked Crimson with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over Valdemar Pape.

Nguyen extended his singles win streak to nine and has not last a match since Jan. 20 at USC. He is tops on the squad with a 10-2 record.

In doubles, Nguyen and
Noah Zamora were up 5-4 at No. 1 when both Dartmouth and Harvard clinched the point.

UC Irvine is back in action on Saturday, March 29, when it opens Big West play at Hawai'i.
