SAN JACINTO, Calif. – UC Irvine extended its lead at the UCR Soboba Classic and freshman
Katelyn Kong moved into first place after the second round at the Soboba Golf Course.
UC Irvine shot a second round of 291 and holds a 17-shot lead over second place Cal State Fullerton and CSUN (595) with a two-day score of 578.
Freshman
Katelyn Kong carded a two-under par 70 Saturday and moved into first place with a 36-hole total of 141. She is one two players to record an eagle logging a three on the Par 5 15
th hole and holds a four shot lead going into the final day. Kong has been steady with a tournament-best 30 pars.
Freshmen
Alona Avery and
Katherine Gerbing are tied for fourth with a score of 146. The duo have each posted a score of 73 on each round. Junior
Jasmine Chen (72-75) and sophomore
Alyson Sor (71-76) are tied for eighth with a two-day total of 147. Sor leads all players with nine birdies overall followed by Gerbing with seven, which is tied for third best.
Charlotte Ryoo, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 30th with a two-day total of 158 (77-81)
The Anteaters lead the tournament field on Par 3 (3.23), Par 4 (4.11) and Par 5 (4.68) scoring. UCI has recorded a tournament best 29 birdies and 118 pars.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes tomorrow beginning at 8:40 a.m.
