UC Irvine Shoots School Record 279 At Golf Iconic Classic

LAS CRUCES, NM – UC Irvine shot a school record 279 on the second round of the Golf Iconic Classic at the New Mexico State Golf Course Tuesday.
The round of 279 betters the former mark of 282 set in 2021 on the first round of the Big West Championship. The Anteaters had 16 birdies on the day to move into the top spot in the record book.
Heading into the final round tomorrow, UCI is in second place with a two-day total of 563 (284-279) and is two shots behind leader Boise State (561).
The Anteaters lead the field on Par 4 scoring with a two-under (3.98). Kong is tied for second on the Par 4s at four-under (3.80), while Gerbing is tied for fourth at three-under (3.85). Overall, UCI is tied for third among all teams in birdies (31) and tied for fifth in pars (123).
Sophomore HaYoung Lee led the team on the second round, carding a career-best round of 68. She shot up 38 spots and is tied for 15th place with a two-round score of 142.
Sophomore Katherine Gerbing followed, firing a round of 69 Tuesday and moved up the leaderboard into a tie with Lee for 15th at 142 (73-69).
Sophomore Katelyn Kong recorded an even par 72 on the second round and continues to lead the Anteaters individually in a tie for seventh with a score of 139 (67-72).
Graduate student Jenny Chang recorded a score of 70 for the second consecutive round and is tied for 12th with a score of 140. Sophomore Alona Avery is tied for 88th with a score of 154 (76-78).
The Anteaters tee-off at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow for the final round.
