UC Irvine Set to Co-Host the Orange County Collegiate Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team begins the 2025 portion of its schedule at home as it is set to co-host the sixth-annual Van Harte Orange County Collegiate Classic, Feb. 10-11. Ten teams will converge at the par-72 Coto de Caza South Course, which will be played at 6,950 yards. Thirty-six holes are slated for Monday and the final 18 will be contested on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days.
UCI and co-host Cal State Fullerton will be joined by British Columbia, Gonzaga, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, St. John's, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Weber State.
The Anteaters' 5-count-4 lineup features Rei Harashima, Jack Yu, JJ Nakao, Jason Tang and Tommy Lin. Owen Davis-Piger, Joshua Lane, Yaoting Zou and Kevin McGough will also compete as individuals.

LAST TIME OUT
UC Irvine closed out its fall season at the Ka'anapali Classic in Maui, Nov. 2-4. The Anteaters posted their best round of the tournament on the final day to finish 16th with a 5-count-4 score of 845 (286-284-275). Rei Harashima paced UCI in 29th place with a 54-hole total of 207 (69-71-67). JJ Nakao tied for 35th at 208 (74-68-66), while Jack Yu carded a 216 (76-71-69).
SETTING THE TONE
Rei Harashima recorded six sub-70 rounds through four fall tournaments. He had an eighth-place showing at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational where he carded a 7-under 206 (69-68-69). Harashima also fired a season-best 67 in the second round of a top-20 performance at the Oregon State Invitational and matched that score in the third round of the Ka'anapali Classic on Nov. 4. The two-time All-Big West selection is tops on the squad with a 71.50 stroke average.
SEASON-OPENING WIN
UC Irvine won its season-opening tournament, finishing first in a 12-team field at the Oregon State Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Club, Oct. 7-8. UCI came from behind to defeat the host Beavers by two strokes. It was the Anteaters' first stroke play tournament victory since winning the Big West Championship in 2018. The 'Eaters also won the Cal Poly Match Play Tournament in 2019. JJ Nakao led UC Irvine at 2-under 211 for a career-best fourth-place showing.
GOING LOW
The Anteaters came in below par in three of their first four tournaments. Four players have combined for 14 sub-70 scores, led by six from Rei Harashima. Jack Yu also has four rounds in the 60s with a best of 68. JJ Nakao posted two of his three sub-70 rounds at the Ka'anapali Classic, closing out the tournament with a season-best 66. Jason Tang added a season-best 69 in his final round of the fall.

UC Irvine will be back in action, Feb. 24-26, when it heads to the Classic Club for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
