PHOENIX, Calif. -- UC Irvine had a pair of players in the top 10 and finished second at the GCU Invitational at the GCU Golf Course.
The Anteaters could not overcome the home course advantage, ending 12 shots behind host Grand Canyon (857). UCI finished with a three-round score of 869 (285-288-296).
Junior
Jasmine Chen paced the Anteaters, placing seventh, her best finish of the season. She carded a score of 216 (69-73-74), posting a season-low 69 on the first round. She recorded 29 pars, the third most among all players, to go with eight birdies.
Katherine Gerbing, had her second consecutive top 10 finish, moving up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 10
th after shooting even par 72 on the final round. The freshman had a 54-hole total of 218 (75-71-72).
Freshman
Katelyn Kong was tied for 15
th with a score of 220 (70-71-79) followed by freshman
Alona Avery who was tied for 25
th with a score of 223 (72-73-78) and sophomore
Alyson Sor who was tied for 33rd place with a two-day score of 226 (74-80-72). Sor matched Gerbing with the best round of the day at 72.
Gerbing and Kong each had a team-best nine birdies over the three rounds.
The Anteaters will compete at the Silicon Valley Showcase Mar. 24-25 at the Green Hills Country Club next.
