Men's Golf Among Top-8 After Opening Round in Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. – UC Irvine men's golf came in at even par to tie for seventh after the first round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Monday at the Classic Club.
 
The Anteaters combined for a 5-count-4 total of 288 to tie with Tarleton State and host Wyoming. Charlotte and Colorado Christian lead the field at 13-under. Jake Weissenburger (Duke), Xavier Bighaus (Colorado Christian) and Kaelen Dulany (UTSA) all carded a 7-under 65 to sit atop the individual leaderboard.
 
Junior Yaoting Zou paced the 'Eaters in the opening round as he is tied for 18th. Zou fired four birdies on the day, including on his final hole to get to 2-under 70.
 
Freshman Tommy Lin is one stroke back in a tie for 30th. Lin had three birdies against a double bogey to finish with a 71 (-1).
 
Freshman Jack Yu shot an even-par 72 to tie for 36th, while junior Rei Harashima and sophomore Jason Tang are tied for 64th (75).
 
UCI returns to the Classic Club tomorrow for the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
