IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine Athletics and women's soccer have championed the messaging of a "helmet every ride" together with the UC Irvine Police Department.
"At UCIPD, we're alarmed by the upswing: e-scooter and bicycle medical calls continue to rise each year, with 2025 on pace to equal or exceed 2024," informed UCIPD Director of Administration and UCI women's soccer alum, Alisa Reich. "Ride smart, ride safe!"
In response to the rise in e-scooter and e-bike-related crashes, UCIPD and UC Irvine women's soccer are leading the team's new "helmet every ride" mandate to encourage everyone to ride smart, ride safe, wear helmets, and champion the message across UC Irvine Athletics and the community.
"When there are players in your extended soccer family dealing with serious injuries, you have to re-evaluate a lot of things," head coach
Scott Juniper said of the message. "Helmets can make a massive difference in the case of an accident, and as a dad, I'm really happy to see our players, who are role models, begin a new standard of scooter and e-bike safety."
