Balanced Offensive Attack Takes Down CSUN, 3-1

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine had four players with double-digit kills in a 3-1 victory over CSUN (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 25-11) at the Bren Events Center Saturday.

Senior Kendra Duffey tied her career-high with a match-high 18 kills, dominating the final set with eight kills, hitting .500. She rounded out her stat line with seven digs and two block assists.

Middle blocker Ally Bolden also posted a career-high with 13 kills, hitting .462 (13-1-26) with two block assists.

UCI hit .240 (58-23-146) and held CSUN to a .069 (33-24-130) night.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
>Outside hitter Madison Triplett recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. She had two total blocks, including a solo
>Opposite Lois Hansen matched Triplett with 11 kills
>Setter Nicole Feliciano totaled a season-high 44 set assists plus 13 digs, three total blocks (1 solo) and an ace
>Libero Campbell Jensen had a match-best 15 digs, seven set assists and two aces
>Izzy Romero was lethal from the service line with a career-high three aces. She also popped up eight digs
>Middle blocker Sydnee Rowe had a team-high four block assists and four kills
>CSUN was led by Leah Miller's eight kills
>UCI goes to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in the Big West, snapping the Matador's three match win streak. CSUN is now 10-7 on the year and 3-3 in league action.

FIRST SET
>UCI peeled off five in a row which included a block by Sydnee Rowe and Kendra Duffey plus kills from Madison Triplett, Rowe and Lois Hansen, 6-1
>Another four straight by UCI which saw two more Hansen kills and an ace by Campbell Jensen increased the lead to 10-3
>Three kills and an ace by the Matadors inched CSUN to 7-10
>CSUN would tie the set at 13-13 on an ace
>Setter Nicole Feliciano got her hands over the net to block what looked like an overpass kill by CSUN before Rowe and Triplett sent the ball to the floor, starting a 4-0 spurt that was capped by another Jensen ace, 19-15
>Kills by Ally Bolden and another by Duffey ended the set, 25-19

SECOND SET
>UCI opened the set with kills from Duffey, Rowe and Hansen on the way to an early Ā 6-1 lead
>CSUN would close to 5-8 before a Bolden and Felciano block stopped the momentum
>A Triplett solo block would give UCI the 14-10 lead only to watch the Matadors score the next six to move in front 16-14
>UCI would go ahead 17-16 using kills by Hansen and Bolden and a Matador attack error
>Tied at 20-20, CSUN had a block, kill and an ace then following a block by Rowe and Duffey, a UCI attack error gave the Matadors the 25-21 victory

THIRD SET
>In a closely contested third set, Bolden had a kill and Emma Napoleon dropped an ace into the back corner, 8-6
>Another ace, this one by Feliciano extended the advantage to 11-7
>A pair of Triplett kills and a Matador attack error got UCI to the media timeout with a 15-10 lead
>A hustle play by Duffey on an errand reception led to a Matador attack error and CSUN timeout, 17-12
>Consecutive kills by Hansen and Bolden were followed by a Matador kill, 23-17
>UCI won 25-17 on a kill by Triplett and an ace by Izzy Romero

FOURTH SET
>UCI started with a kill by Duffey and a block by Rowe and Hansen
>The Anteaters scored four unanswered the last two kills from Duffey, 11-3
>Duffey continued to take over the match pounding four more kills straight down, 15-6
>The Anteaters ended the match with the final five points, two kills by Bolden, two kills by Triplett and an ace by Romero, 25-11

NOTES
>Emma Napoleon recorded an ace for the second consecutive match
>UCI's .240 hitting percentage is the third best of the season
