UC Irvine Takes Sixth at Bill Dellinger Invite

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – UC Irvine women's cross country finished sixth in a competitive field at the Bill Dellinger Invitational Friday in Springfield, Oregon.
The Anteaters entered the meet ranked 14th in the West Region. They came in behind five teams with a higher regional ranking, while holding a comfortable advantage over seventh-place Weber State, which is 11th in the Mountain Region.
Host Oregon won the team title with 16 points. The Ducks are ranked first in the West Region and fourth in the nation. They had the top four finishers, led by individual champion Diana Cherotich (18:58.81).
Junior Kaia Schmidt had another impressive performance, placing 14th out of 102 runners. Schmidt completed the 6K course at Pine Ridge Golf Club in 20:43.97. Junior Emma Hadley was next across the line for the 'Eaters in 21:13.75 to come in 27th.
Senior Makena Castillo (21:36.80) and sophomore Rachel Moen (21:41.30) were 41st and 43rd, respectively. Freshman Grace Baxter was UCI's fifth scorer, clocking in at 21:50.13 (53rd).
Also representing the Anteaters were sophomore Liana Lee (21:54.08), senior Nicole Contreras (22:09.96), sophomore Anna Soares (22:15.19), and junior Marjourie Lopez (22:40.07).
Up next for UC Irvine is the Highlander Invitational in Riverside on Saturday, Oct. 18.
