LOS ANGELES – UC Irvine, which was playing its third match in four days, fell to USC, 6-0, Monday at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.

The Anteaters (1-2) came up just short in doubles. After the Trojans took the match at No. 1,
Rithvik Krishna and
Hiroki Sakagawa rallied for a 7-5 victory over Karl Lee/Oscar Weightman at the third position.

On court two,
Sohrob Amiryavari and
Max Fardanesh fought back from a 5-2 deficit to force a tiebreaker, but the 'Eaters were unable to complete the comeback, dropping a narrow 7-6 (4) decision to Matteo Morazzi/Nathan Trouve.

USC (1-0), which was playing its first match of the season, kept the momentum in singles where it won at Nos. 2, 4 and 1 to clinch the victory.

At the fifth spot, Amiryavari won a second-set tiebreaker to force a third, but Morazzi was able to hold on for the 6-1, 6-7 (2), 10-6 triumph.

Sakagawa's match against Weightman at No. 3 went unfinished. Sakagawa took the first set 6-4 and was down 5-3 in the second.

UC Irvine returns to action this weekend as it heads to San Diego State for a 12 p.m. showdown on Saturday, Jan. 25.
