IRVINE, Calif. – Attacker
Luka Krstic was named the Big West Player of the Week on Wednesday afternoon the conference announced.
This weekly honor is the first of the season for the league and the second of the junior's career.
Krstic led UC Irvine to two wins in the opening weekend of play with a team best 11 points, six goals, five assists, four steals, two field blocks, and one drawn exclusion.
Kicking off the season with an 18-8 victory over the reigning DIII national champions Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Krstic contributed one goal, two assists, and one steal. In the night cap against then No. 2/2 California, the attacker led all Anteaters with five points (three goals and two assists) to go along with two steals.
In day two of the action, Krstic added two goals, a drawn exclusion, and a steal versus No. 3/3 Stanford and closed out the weekend with an assist in the 24-10 effort over Concordia University Irvine.
The junior ranks second in the Big West in field blocks, fifth in points, and eighth in assists.
Krstic and the Anteaters are set to host No. 1 UCLA on Friday September 13th at 1 p.m. inside the Anteater Aquatics Complex for their home opener.
