No. 13 UC Irvine Storms Back for Senior Day Win, 14-9

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball punctuated the regular season with a 14-9 win Saturday over CSUN in Anteater Ballpark.
  • The visitors got off to a hot start with two runs in the first and a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning
  • The 'Eaters sent 13 batters to the plate in their bottom of the fourth to score seven and turn the game around and lead, 8-6
    • The big blow was a Myles Smith single the other way to score two and cut it to a 6-5 ballgame
    • Dub Gleed bounced a ball through the unoccupied right side of the infield to give UCI the 7-6 lead
  • CSUN got within a run, 8-7, in the fifth inning before UCI added three runs to stretch the advantage to 11-7
    • Gleed again found the right side wide open to put the lead back at 9-7
    • Consecutive hit by pitch with the bases loaded including Woody Hadeen's second of the afternoon helped stretch it to a four-run game
  • A two-run CSUN home run in the seventh closed the gap once again to 11-9
  • Ricky Tibbett came on in the eighth looking to earn his 10th save and got inning-ending double plays in the eighth and ninth by Woody Hadeen and Will Bermudez to sew up the win, 14-9
  • The offense again mashed 15 hits along with 14 runs
    • Gleed had a monster day leading all Anteaters with four hits and three RBIs
    • Hadeen had three runs and two walks to push his record-setting season totals to 76 runs scored and 58 walks
  • On Senior Day, 13 graduates were honored - Woody Hadeen, Caden Kendle, Ricky Tibbett, Cameron Wheeler, David Vizcaino, Will Bermudez, Abraham Garcia-Pacheco, Thomas McCaffrey, Nick Pinto, Luke Spillane, Jo Oyama, Jacob Stinson, and Nick Rincover along with student manager Zeke Bellino.
UC Irvine finishes the regular season with an impressive 43-12 record tying the most win for the program in a regular season. UCI ends up 22-8 in Big West play and a second place finish in the conference.
