No. 15 Anteaters Fall at Home to Trojans

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball dropped a game to USC for the second time in eight days, this time in Anteater Ballpark by the score of 12-4 Wednesday night.
  • The visitors got the scoring going in the second inning mounting a rally with two outs scoring all of their runs to go up, 3-0
  • USC's Abbrie Covarrubias got another run-scoring hit early in the fourth inning to add to the lead. After a run-scoring wild pitch, the Trojans put an early dagger into the game with a bases-clearing double with two outs for a five-run frame and 8-0 lead
  • UCI got on the board with a hit by pitch to Will Bermudez to force home a run and make it 8-1 in the fourth
  • USC regrouped and tacked on two more runs via Covarrubias in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to make it an 11-1 game
  • Bermudez got another run back blasting a solo home run to right-center in the seventh
  • The 'Eaters added single runs in the eighth thanks to a walk, two HBPs, and a passed ball, and the ninth on a two-out RBI single by Frankie Carney before closing it out, a 12-4 loss
  • Seven Anteater pitchers threw with just two throwing scoreless ball.
  • The 'Eaters pounded out nine hits and seven others reaching on walks and HBP, but had a pair of untimely double plays end threats
    • Bermudez had the two-RBI game giving him 30 on the year along with his second home run
    • Anthony Martinez had the only multi-hit performance
    • Woody Hadeen scored in the ninth to extend his streak to 16 consecutive games with a hit and run scored
    • Landon Gaz busted a single in the ninth inning for his first collegiate hit
