Hurdlers Pace 'Eaters as Busy Weekend Wraps Up

AZUSA & LONG BEACH, Calif. --- Men's track and field concluded action at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach Saturday.

Highlighting the afternoon at the Beach Invitational were the hurdlers. Drew Pickett ran a personal-record 14.01 in the 110m hurdles to win the event, his third win in the event in his career. Jarel Sayles joined him in the top-10 placing ninth with a time of 14.36. In the 400m hurdles, Roman Mendoza (55.01) and Ashton Fegel (56.99) each finished in the top 20 coming in at 11th and 19th, respectively.

Another season-best on the track came from Brandon Burns finishing at 10.91 in the 100m besting it by two-hundredths of a second. Alex Skalmowski finished with a time of 10.79 in the event.

Field events enjoyed a solid day starting with a season-best triple jump by Anthony Victa finishing 24th at 14.07m.

Alan Vuong tied his season-best at high jump with a 2.01-meter-jump placing 11th.

Jacob Hawkins (17.40m) and Justin Willingham (17.24m) placed top-20 in the shot put at 14th and 16th, respectively.

Liam Miksic finished 13th in the javelin with a throw of 65.64.

Next up for the Anteaters are the Mt. SAC Relays, a three-day event that begins Thursday, April 18 along with a one-day presence at the Chris Rinne Invitational at UC Riverside.
