Anteaters Close out Ben Brown Invite with Three Event Wins

FULLERTON, Calif. - UC Irvine women's track & field closed out the Ben Brown Invitational with three event wins Saturday at Titan Track Stadium.
 
Freshman Kailah McKenzie won the high jump in her outdoor season debut. She entered the competition at 1.61 meters and cleared the bar on her first attempt at her first four heights. She ultimately reached a personal-record 1.76m (5-9.25), which ranks third in program history.
 
Senior Deandra Tyler picked up her second shot put win in as many meets. She took the lead on her first throw of Flight 3 before registering a season-best 15.33m (50-3.5) on her first attempt in the finals. Sophomore Nyla Baker added a top-five showing with a toss of 13.71m (44-11.75).
 
In the discus, sophomore Nadia Combs-Mahone was eighth out of 42 with a season-best 42.47m (139-4).
 
On the track, junior Reyna Johnson, freshman Hallena Sutherland, sophomore Samantha Bartz and senior Aryel Coats finished ahead of the pack in the 4x100 with a time of 46.20 seconds.
 
Sutherland was also UCI's top performer in the 200m, clocking in at 24.66 seconds to place eighth in a field of 62 sprinters. Senior Mia Marquez (25.35) and junior Jazzmine Davis (25.39) were also among the top-20.
 
Senior Alexis Alexander led five 'Eaters in the 400m where she took sixth (57.30).
 
Freshman Sarah Ajayi had the Anteaters' top time in the 100m hurdles (14.59), while senior Journee Harvey set lifetime bests in both the 100H (14.70) and 400H (66.35). Coats (12.39) and Ajayi (12.40) also paced UC Irvine in the 100m.
 
Graduate student Bailey Moran, Alexander, freshman Isabella Duarte and sophomore Reina Kabbara closed out the meet with a runner-up finish in the 4x400 (3:55.78).
 
UCI returns to Titan Track Stadium in Fullerton next Friday, March 15, for the Challenge Cup.
