IRVINE, Calif. - Justin Willingham broke his own school record in his second shot put victory of the season to highlight a strong day for UC Irvine at the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic Friday at Anteater Stadium.

Willingham threw for over 18 meters on three of his six attempts. He bettered his own standard on his third throw of the afternoon where he hit 18.65m (61-2.25). Willingham's previous best was 18.62m (61-1.25) at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 9. He also took second in the discus with a mark of 52.71m (172-11).

Jacob Hawkins earned his third-straight victory in the discus, winning the event with a meet-record 55.79 meters (183-0). He added a runner-up showing in the shot put at 17.31m (56-9.5).

Alan Vuong was the last man standing in the high jump with a clearance of 1.91m (6-3.25).

Josh Farmer won a back-and-forth battle with teammate
Logan Peyton in the javelin. Farmer was in the lead through the first five throws before Peyton surpassed him on his sixth and final attempt with a best of 53.46m (175-4). Farmer then closed out the competition with a toss of 53.88m (176-9) to move back into first.

Farmer also notched a season-best 4.61m (15-1.5) in the pole vault, while
Anthony Victa registered a season-best in the triple jump (13.90m/45-7.25).

On the track,
Jarel Sayles finished first in the 110m hurdles, clocking a personal-record 14.23. He entered UCI's all-time top-10 at No. 9.

Joshua Schuld led the 'Eaters in the 1500m, claiming runner-up honors in 3:57.55.
Zeid Hussain (3:58.38) and
Jacob Bustamante (3:58.53) weren't far behind in third and fourth, respectively. Bustamante's time was a season best.

Max Daniels (10.71),
Bryce Bushnell (10.72) and Farmer all clocked season bests in the 100m.

Juan Sanchez was second out of 21 in the 5000m (14:53.20), while
AJ Sager placed fourth in the 800m (1:57.56).

In the 400m,
Eric Parker finished among the top-five with a time of 49.10.

The Anteaters wrapped up the meet with two teams in the 4x400 relay. Bushnell, Farmer, Parker and
Ty Sheridan combined for a season-best 3:14.01 to come in second.
Jake Preston,
Max Daniels, Mendoza and
Ashton Fegel were also third (3:17.91).

UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend, traveling to La Jolla for the Triton Invitational, April 5-6.
