IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team defeated Army, 7-0, in its non-conference finale Tuesday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The 'Eaters will take a 10-5 overall record into their Big West opener Saturday at UC Davis. They also improved to 9-1 at home. The Black Knights dropped to 10-10 on the season.

UCI got out to a strong start in doubles with
Andy Nguyen and
Hiroki Sakagawa setting the tone with a 6-1 victory over Jack Hanna/Daniel Choi at No. 3.
After splitting their first two games,
Rahul Dhokia and
Noah Zamora went on a roll, winning five of the next six for the 6-2 triumph over Marcus Sebastian/Alan Ton at the top of the lineup.

Brandon Park and
Matthew Sah were up 5-3 and had match point on court two when doubles were clinched.

In singles, Nguyen took the second spot in the lineup, his highest of the season, but was not fazed as he made quick work of Jake Huarte, 6-3, 6-0.

Ali Amiri cruised, 6-2, 6-1, over Sebastian at No. 5, before Dhokia secured the team victory by taking down Samuel Haikal, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4. Dhokia recorded his fourth-straight win and is now 5-1 on the season.

Lawee Sherif then dispatched Vishnu Bodavula, 6-1, 6-2, to improve to 8-2 in his last 10 matches. Zamora also made his season debut at No. 1 where he upended Zhou, 6-4, 6-2. Zamora faced a 4-1 deficit in the first set before winning five consecutive games. Sherif and Zamora are tied for the team lead with nine dual-match singles wins apiece.

Sah closed out the sweep with a resilient win over Ton at No. 6. After dropping a first-set tiebreaker, Sah outlasted Ton, 14-12, in another tiebreaker to force a third frame in which he came out on top for the 6-7 (4), 7-6 (12), 10-8 victory.
