Anteaters Top The Hosts RV/23 Pomona-Pitzer, 14-6

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Anteaters continued to show their electric offensive momentum in the 14-6 win over the hosting RV/23 Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon.
 
Madi O'Hara notched her first hat-trick of the season in a four-goal showing to pace the No. 7/7 UC Irvine offense.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • First period: No. 7/7 UC Irvine opened the scoring with Libby Alexander's (6:15) nearside strike and extended their advantage with Gracie Helberg's wide-open flick in the middle of the cage at 5:12. RV/23 Pomona-Pitzer got on the board with a lucky deflection into the cage (3:37) before the Anteaters responded with two power play goals, 4-1.

  • Second period: Both teams exchanged scores to open up the second stanza until UCI had two straight, a rocket from Madi O'Hara (4:51) and a pass from Sara Naulty to Kennedy East (2:13) as the duo went 2-on-1 with the Sagehen goalkeeper. Lauren Hett (0:33) hit a far post dagger to carry the 8-3 lead into the half.

  • Third period: Senior Kili Skibby (7:43) was firing right out of the gate with an early attack from deep and then passed the ball high to East for the lofted shot on the following offensive possession for the Anteaters at 6:59. Pomona-Pitzer nailed a shot in the upper left corner to stop the UCI three-goal run, but O'Hara capitalized in the center with her no-look score, 11-4 (1:46).

  • Fourth period: O'Hara notched the hat-trick with her ripping shot in the middle of the cage with six minutes left in the contest. Both sides went scoreless for four and a half minutes until goalkeeper Jordan Frost threw the length of the pool, finding Madeline Kasper for her first collegiate goal at 1:28. The redshirt sophomore O'Hara saw one more goal in the contest as she pushed the ball into the cage as the foul was being called with two seconds left in the game to give UCI the 14-6 victory.
