Box Score LA JOLLA, Calif. – Balanced offense from the Anteaters was not enough in their 13-12 loss to No. 10 Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Wolverines were able to sneak in an extra goal in the third period to seal their one-point victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Three different Anteaters had multi-goal games, Jensine Bugelli, Airian Grisham, and Gracie Helberg, with two goals apiece
• Attacker Kennedy East found the back of the cage for the third consecutive game
• Brooke Hourigan, Maja Layden, Marilynn Hassett, and Madi O'Hara rounded out the UCI scoring with a goal each
• The last three games between UCI and Michigan have been decided by one point

 
SCORING BREAKDOWN

• First period: UC Irvine came out firing against No. 11 Michigan after their morning loss. Each side saw three scores in the opening period of action to be knotted up, 3-3.
  • Bugelli (1), East (1), and Hourigan (1)
• Second period: Both teams kept fighting through, but neither team could escape the offensive pressure of the other. The Anteaters and the Wolverines remained locked up, 6-6.
  • Bugelli (1), Grisham (1), and Layden (1)
• Third period: The third period saw more balanced scoring from UC Irvine. The Anteaters saw three more balls reach the back of the net, but Michigan was able to grab the advantage in the game with their four goals to lead, 10-9.
  • Grisham (1), Hassett (1), and Norris (1)
• Fourth period: The two sides remained steady, going blow for blow with each other. Three goals per side let the game stay close, but the extra score by the Wolverines in the third stanza earned them the 13-12 victory.
