No. 10 UC Irvine Can't Contain No. 1 UCLA In 11-5 Loss

TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
IRVINE, Calif. – No. 10 UC Irvine could not contain No. 1 UCLA in a 11-5 loss to start the second day of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational at Marion Bergeson Pool at Corona del Mar High School.
After a slight 3-2 lead in the opening period, the Bruins held UCI scoreless in the second period to open a 7-2 lead at the half. UCLA out-scored UCI 4-3 in the final two periods to close out the game.
Libby Alexander scored twice to lead the Anteater offense with Jordan Frost recording eight saves.

>UCLA was effective with a player advantage, scoring on 7-11, while UCI was 2-8

SCORING BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER: Bruins got on the board with the first two goals…Marilynn Hassett scored down low at 3:01 before Maja Layden fired it in the goal off the goalie deflection to tie it up at 2:16… UCLA ended the quarter with a goal at 27 seconds.
SECOND QUARTER: UCLA scored five unanswered goals to go into the break with a 7-2 advantage.
THIRD QUARTER: Libby Alexander scored up top to start the quarter (6:58)…the Bruins countered with the next two goals one on a powerplay and one at full strength, 9-3.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCLA netted a goal at 6:24…Alexander scored her second goal at 6:11…Sabina Shackelford fed the ball inside to Madi O'Hara who scored on a backhand rocket at 3:16, 10-5…UCLA scored the final goal for the 11-5 final.
