Nakao Goes Low on Day 2 in Maui

LAHAINA, Maui - Junior JJ Nakao carded a season-best 68 to lead UC Irvine in the second round of the Ka'anapali Classic Sunday at Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.
 
Nakao fired six birdies for a 3-under 68. He climbed 35 spots in the standings into a tie for 64th at even-par 142 (74-68).
 
Junior Rei Harashima is tops on the squad through 36 holes as he is tied for 45th at 2-under (69-71). Harashima had a steady second round with two birdies against two bogeys.
 
Sophomore Jason Tang is tied for 95th with a 146 (69-77), while freshman Jack Yu is tied for 100th with a 147 (76-71). Freshman Owen Davis-Piger (74-74) is also tied for 109th.
 
Second-ranked Oklahoma holds a five-stroke lead at 31-under, and the Sooners' Jaxon Dowell remained at the top of the individual leaderboard at 13-under. UCI enters tomorrow's final round in 18th place.
 
The Ka'anapali Classic concludes with the final 18 holes on Monday, Nov. 4.
