November 20, 2024 | Men's Tennis
WACO, Texas - Noah Zamora's NCAA Singles Championship run came to an end in the Round of 32 Wednesday at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center.
After upsetting 13th-ranked Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame in Tuesday's Round of 64, Zamora went head-to-head with No. 37 Pedro Vives of TCU, which won the 2024 NCAA team championship.
Zamora took the first game off Vives, but the Horned Frog then reeled off three-straight and eventually went up 5-2. Zamora kept battling, winning the next two to close the gap to 5-4. He then held off one set point to pull even at 40-all, but Vives was able to win the deuce point for the 6-4 first-set victory.
The second frame played out similar to the first with Zamora taking an early 1-0 advantage before Vives won three-straight games. Zamora kept it close but Vives held serve the rest of the way to secure the 6-4, 6-4 win.
Zamora was the first 'Eater to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship since 2011 and the first to advance in the tournament since 1989. He closes out the fall season with an 8-4 singles record. Zamora was the ITA Southwest Regional runner-up and was an automatic qualifier into the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships.
Zamora and the rest of the defending Big West champion Anteaters will return to the court in 2025 for their dual-match season.
