UCI Finishes Strong at LMU Invitational

LOS ANGELES - UC Irvine men's tennis had an impressive showing on the final day of the LMU Invitational Sunday at LMU Tennis Center.
The Anteaters won all three of their doubles matches against Utah before taking five of six in singles vs. the host Lions.
The 'Eaters had a different look in their doubles pairings for the third-straight day. Ruining Huang and Lawee Sherif made quick work of the Utes' Gianluca Citadini/Geremia Rossi, 6-2. Sohrob Amiryavari and Rithvik Krishna also took down Dylan Applegate/Emmett Potter, 6-2. Mason Bui and Max Fardanesh then completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory over Charles Frey/Reid Jarvis.
UCI carried the momentum into a hard-fought round of singles against LMU. Sherif and Amiryavari both picked up straight set wins. Sherif upended Youssef Sadek, 6-3, 6-4, while Amiryavari defeated Sascha Nothdurft, 6-4, 6-4.
The remaining four matches went the distance. Krishna got the best of Jacopo Denitto, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, while Huang came from behind for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Inigo Diaz. Bui also outlasted Darius Tamaddon, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (3). Fardanesh won his first set against Arthur Pantino but was unable to hold off his opponent in the second and third.
Up next for UC Irvine is the NCAA Singles Championship in Waco, Texas, Nov. 19-24. Noah Zamora will represent the Anteaters as he qualified with a runner-up showing at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. The qualified entries will officially be announced tomorrow at 9 a.m. (PT) on NCAA.com, with the draws being released at 3 p.m. (PT) on Nov. 16.
