Zamora Advances to NCAA Singles Round of 32
November 19, 2024 | Men's Tennis
WACO, Texas - No. 121 Noah Zamora upset 13th-ranked Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame, 6-4, 6-4, to open the NCAA Division I Singles Championship Tuesday afternoon at Hurd Tennis Center.
Zamora was the first Anteater to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship since 2011, and is now the first Anteater to advance in the tournament since 1989.
Zamora and Dominko, who earned All-America honors in 2023 and 2024, went back-and-forth in the opening set. The two sides were tied at 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 before Zamora broke serve to take his first lead of the match. He then came from behind in the final game and won deuce point for the 6-4 victory.
Zamora kept the momentum in the second frame, going up 3-1. That was all the cushion he would need as he held serve the rest of the way for the impressive 6-4, 6-4 win.
Zamora moves on to tomorrow's Round of 32 where he will face No. 37 Pedro Vives of TCU. Zamora and Vives squared off against each other in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Team Championship back in May. Vives won the first set 6-4, but Zamora was up 4-1 in the second when the Horned Frogs clinched the match.
