IRVINE, Calif. – Attacker
Luka Krstic landed Big West Player of the Week honors on Wednesday afternoon the conference announced.
This is the third career weekly honor for the junior, second of the season, and fourth of the year for the Anteater program.
Krstic led UC Irvine to a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Gary Troyer Invitational with a pair of top 20 victories including a top 5 upset.
To open the weekend, Krstic started a hot 4-4 at the cage and dished out an assist in the 24-11 victory over No. 20 Air Force. 24 goals are the most UCI has scored this season. In the second game of the day against Redlands, the attacker totaled three points (two goals and one assist) in the 15-5 victory.
Krstic had the game of his career with seven goals on eight attempts and three assists to combine for ten points in the 20-10 upset of No. 4/4 Pepperdine. The last Anteater to record seven goals in a game was coincidentally against Pepperdine on Nov. 18, 2022, and the last to tally ten points in a game on Sept. 30, 2021. He also added one steal and field block in the win. To close out the weekend, the attacker dished out an assist in the 22-14 win over the host school, Pomona-Pitzer.
The junior ranks third in the Big West in field blocks (7), seventh in points (49), and tops the UC Irvine squad in points, goals (31), field blocks, and is second in assists (18).
Krstic and the Anteaters face No. 18 California Baptist tonight at the Lancer Aquatics Center at 6 p.m.
