UCI Claims Runner-up Honors at Charles Bowles Invitational

SALEM, Ore. - The UC Irvine men's cross country team claimed runner-up honors at the Charles Bowles Invitational Saturday morning at McCulloch Stadium and Bush Park.
The Anteaters, who are 15th in the USTFCCCA West Region Rankings, had five finishers among the top-20 for 58 points. The College of Idaho took home the team title with 43 points.
Redshirt freshman Juan Chantaca led the 'Eaters for the third time in as many races. He completed the 8K course in 23:56.6 to place fourth in a field of 279 athletes.
Senior Joshua Schuld was next across the line in 12th with a season-best 24:26.8. Senior Jacob Bustamante was right on his heels in 13th, clocking a personal-record 24:28.6. Bustamante's PR ranks 10th in program history. He is the fifth Anteater on the current roster to crack UCI's 8K all-time top-10.
Senior Cameron Smith, who ran a lifetime-best 24:18.8 two weeks ago in Riverside, came in at 24:29.5 (14th). Senior Zeid Hussain added a season-best 24:40.7 for a 19th-place finish. Freshman Omar Reyes also notched a personal-record 24:52.4 (22nd), while senior Juan Sanchez rounded out UC Irvine's top-seven in 28th (25:01.4).
UCI will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Highlander Invitational in Riverside.
