Anteaters Take Fourth at Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's cross country team finished fourth at the Highlander Invitational Saturday morning.
The 8K race was held at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course which is the host site of the 2024 Big West Championship in two weeks.
Senior Jacob Bustamante led the Anteaters with a career-best seventh-place showing. He clocked a personal-record 24:16.1 to move up to No. 8 among UCI's all-time leaders.
Senior Zeid Hussain added a top-20 performance with a time of 24:43.2. Senior Cameron Smith was next across the line for the 'Eaters at 24:46.0 (22nd).
Seniors Joshua Schuld (25:09.8) and Juan Sanchez (25:21.8) rounded out the scorers for UC Irvine, while sophomore Caleb McDaniel was right on their heels at 25:27.4. Also among UCI's top-seven were freshman Omar Reyes (25:39.6) and sophomore Jimmy Markowicz (25:55.0).
Arizona claimed the team title and the Wildcats' Gideon Mengich was the individual champion with a time of 23:42.8.
The Anteaters are back in action at the Big West Championship in Riverside on Saturday, Nov. 2.
