Trio of Anteaters In Top 10 At Rainbow Wahine Invitational

KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- UC Irvine has three players in the Top 10 and are in third place as a team heading into the final round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Club.

 The Anteaters shot a second round of 285 and have a 36-hole total of 569, just five strokes behind co-leaders Colorado State and Kansas State (564). UCI's 285 is tied for the fourth best round in program history.

Freshman Alona Avery was tied for a team-best 70 Tuesday, on the strength on an eagle on the Par 5 14th hole. She is tied with sophomore Alyson Sor (69-73) and junior Jasmine Chen (70-72) for 10th place with a two-round score of 142.  Sor is second among tournament participants in birdies with nine, while Chen leads the tournament field on Par 5s with a 4.38 (-5).

Freshman Katelyn Kong matched Avery with a second-round score of 70 and is tied for 15th with a score of 143 (73-70). Freshman Katherine Gerbing is tied for 42nd with a two-day total of 149 (75-74). Kiana Briggs, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 24th with a score of 145 (72-73).

The final round begins with a shotgun start at 12:00 p.m. PT Wednesday.
