Zamora Advances to ITA Southwest Regional Semifinals

TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Noah Zamora won two more singles matches Sunday afternoon to advance to the semifinals of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships at Kiwanis Tennis Center.
In the Round of 16, Zamora dispatched UC Santa Barbara's Lucca Liu, 6-4, 6-3. He then took down No. 109 Casper Christensen of Arizona, 6-4, 7-5, in the quarterfinals. Zamora has dropped just one set in four matches.
Zamora, who is ranked 121st in the nation, will face UCLA's Emon Van Loben Sels in the semifinals Monday at 11 a.m. The two finalists will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship in Waco, Texas, Nov. 19-24.
Sophomore Andy Nguyen's run came to an end in the Round of 16 where he fell to Christensen, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0. Nguyen defeated top-seeded and 52nd-ranked Iiro Vasa (San Diego) on Saturday. Senior Hiroki Sakagawa also dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (12-10) decision to Linus Carlsson Haldin of Pepperdine.
