TEMPE, Ariz. - UC Irvine men's tennis picked up five wins on the first day of main draw singles and doubles at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships Friday at Kiwanis Tennis Center.

In doubles,
Max Fardanesh and
Andy Nguyen topped Cal Poly's Aaron Eliscu/Wian Roothman, 8-5.
Sohrob Amiryavari and
Lawee Sherif also outlasted Paolo Rosati/Jonathan Da Silva of Grand Canyon, 8-7 (7-4).

Hiroki Sakagawa and
Andy Nguyen each recorded a straight-set singles win. Zamora took down Diego Dalisay of Hawai'i, 6-4, 6-2, while Sakagawa upended Arizona State's Mikel Anderson, 6-2, 6-3. Nguyen also dispatched GCU's David Wekesa, 6-1, 6-3.

Ruining Huang took UCLA's Giacomo Revelli down to the wire before falling in a third-set tiebreaker. Revelli was able to hold off a comeback from Huang as the Bruin held on for the 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (12-10) victory.
