Women's Water Polo Adds Eight For 2024 Campaign

IRVINE, Calif.— UC Irvine women's water polo head coach Dan Klatt announces eight newcomers joining the 2024 Anteater roster.

Brooke Hourigan | Graduate Student | Attacker | Newport Beach, Calif. | Orange Lutheran HS | Harvard
Brooke Hourigan is a four-year transfer from Harvard, completing three seasons with the Crimson. Hourigan dished out a career best four assists against Villanova in her first year. In 2022, the attacker finished the campaign with a team best 56 goals to go along with 19 assists and 27 steals as she earned CWPA Player of the Week honors twice (Feb. 17 and Apr. 11). Hourigan led her Crimson team to the 2023 CWPA final behind her game-winning goal with less than a second left in the game. The transfer notched at least six hat-tricks in the 2023 campaign and ended the year with 53 goals, 26 assists, 31 steals, and 21 blocks. Hourigan was awarded Second Team All-CWPA, CWPA All-Tournament First Team, and AWCPA All-American Honorable Mention honors for her effort in her senior season.
 
Maja Layden | Sophomore | Center | Mill Valley, Calif. | Tamalpais HS | UC San Diego
Maja Layden comes to UC Irvine as a transfer from Big West foe UC San Diego. The center scored a career high five goals against Cal State Monterey Bay as a Triton. For her academic success, Layden was named to the ACWPC All-Academic Team and the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll (highest honors). In 2022, the sophomore was named the MCAL Player of the Year after helping lead her squad to a MCAL championship.
 
Vivian Bailey | Freshman | Attacker | Long Beach, Calif. | Long Beach Wilson HS
Vivian Bailey heads to Irvine from Long Beach. Bailey lettered in water polo at Long Beach Wilson High School where she was an All-CIF Second Team honoree and All-Moore League First Team member in the 2023 season. Additionally, in 2020 and 2021, the attacker was an academic All-American.
 
Marilynn Hassett | Freshman | Attacker | Orinda, Calif. | Miramonte HS
Marilynn Hassett comes to UC Irvine by way of Miramonte High School in Orinda. A strong performer in the classroom, Hassett was awarded the Ernie Voight Memorial scholarship and received USA Water Polo Outstanding Academic All-American honors.

Lauren Hett | Freshman | Attacker | Orinda, Calif. | Carondelet HS
Lauren Hett makes the trip to Irvine from Orinda, California where she attended Carondelet High School. The attacker lettered in water polo all four years. Hett enjoys spending her free time skiing.

Rachel Kirchner | Freshman | Goalkeeper | Placentia, Calif. | Foothill HS
Rachel Kirchner, a California native, comes from Placentia. At Foothill HS, the goalkeeper was named to the All-CIF Open Division First Team while being a two-time All-Crestview League First Team selection.

Annabelle Mundelius | Freshman | Defender | Danville, Calif. | San Ramon Valley HS
Annabelle Mundelius, a defender, comes from San Ramon Valley High School in Danville where she lettered in water polo. A standout in the classroom, Mundelius graduated with high honors while earning All-American honors for four straight years in the pool.
 
Sara Naulty | Freshman | Attacker | Tustin, Calif. | Orange Lutheran HS
Sara Naulty heads over to Irvine from nearby Tustin. The attacker attended Orange Lutheran High School where she lettered in water polo all four years.
 
Hourigan, Layden, Bailey, Hassett, Hett, Kirchner, Mundelius, and Naulty all join the returning Anteaters to begin preparations for Polo-Palooza at Fresno State to start the 2024 campaign.
