Moore's Brace Not Enough to Tame Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. --- UC Irvine women's soccer had another whirlwind road match with Alyssa Moore scoring twice in a loss at Paul Lorenz Field and Oregon State, 3-2, Thursday afternoon.

OREGON STATE 3, UC IRVINE 2
  • The 'Eaters were on the front foot with the first four shots of the match and two on target
  • Alyssa Moore got the scoring started in the 20th minute with a beautiful back heel flick from 12 yards out off the left post and in on an equally-stellar cross by Tati Fung to make it 1-0, UCI
  • Oregon State turned it up a notch with eight of the final nine shots in the period
  • The Beavers leveled in the 33rd minute as Glo Hinojosa leapt out to punch clear a low-lining cross, but was just late as Carly Carraher got a foot on it and slotted it in for a 1-1 match
  • Three minutes later, McKenna Martinez was lurking across the top of the box, losing the ball, and regaining it after a blocked shot for a side-heel strike that shot off Hinojosa and under the crossbar for a 2-1 Oregon State lead in the 36th minute
  • The sides were locked in an even tussle into the half and early in the second half before a fortunate bounce helped the Beavers. A bounding shot made it through traffic and was stopped on the goalline by defender Mihaela Perez, but the rebound was won by a crashing Valerie Tobias who punched it over the line for extend the OSU lead to 3-1 in the 70th minute
  • The Anteater chances were slower to develop after their first goal, but found a seam as the match hit the 89th minute. Sophie Gillies' perfect through ball led Moore on goal as the Beaver backline awaited an offside call that never came. Moore took a touch and slipped a shot by the keeper's left to draw back to within 3-2 with 1:55 left in the match
  • UCI got possession back in the attacking third and heaved up a few crosses looking for gold on the other end, but could not connect and find the equalizer
  • Moore raised her career total to 16 goals with six of them coming against Pac-12 competition
  • Moore earned her second career brace and first since registering two goals and one assist in a 6-1 win at CSUN back in 2021
  • Gillies' assist was her second this year, both in road matches, and gives her eight in her career and an even 20 points
  • Tati Fung's impressive assist gives her one in three consecutive matches as she's now tied for second on the team in points and puts her at seven assist in her Anteater career
  • Lost in all the scoring was another move up the ladder for Glo Hinojosa who stopped four shots on the evening to put her even with Marissa Welliver for sixth all-time in program history at 187 career saves
  • Gianna Creighton started in her milestone 70th career match becoming the 16th Anteater with 70 in a career while also playing in her 70th career match
  • UCI's accuracy was never questioned in the match putting up 10 shots and eight on target
  • UC Irvine's two road matches this year have totaled 11 goals now with each team holding a lead in both
